Katpadi Junction is a railway station in the Vellore city. The station is located on Chennai-Bangalore and Villupuram – Tirupati lines. This is one of the cleaned and well maintained railway station in southern railway and also Katpadi Jn is one of the TOP 20 Revenue Yeiling Railway Stations in Tamil Nadu. It is located at the northern end of the city on Chittor Highway connecting Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu and Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.
The station is served by 5 platforms, of which platforms 4 and 5 primarily serve trains bound from\to Vellore Cantonment & south Tamil Nadu and from and to Andhra Pradesh. More than 150 passenger trains passing through (Up and Down) Vellore-Katpadi Junction every day. Platforms 1 to 3 primarily serve trains bound to Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Kerala directions.
A food plaza maintained by IRCTC is located on platforms 1 and 2. Platform 1, 2 and 3 platforms also have refreshment stalls, ranging from Aavin milk booth, coffee shops, Hotel, Book stall and Fruit stalls. Toilets and bathrooms are available in plaftform no.1, 2, 3 and 5. ATM is located at the main entrance. Digital board in platform no.1 and 2 shows the departure and arrival of trains with coach numbers. RPF Police station located at platform no.1. Parcel booking office, Railway Mailing Service (RMS)are available. Waiting rooms for Upper class and sleeper class passengers are available in platforms 1, 2 and 3. Separate Waiting hall for ladies also available.
This station has five counters for unreservation tickets in platform 1. Reservation for long distance trains is located at Main entrance of the railway station in separate building with seven counters. For paasengers security, the southern railways has installed cameras in all platforms

Once a village, Katpadi was upgraded to a panchayat town, with its own taluk office. It has a major assembly constituency which is part of Arakkonam (Lok Sabha constituency).
Katpadi lies in the northern side of the Palar River with the Andhra Pradesh state border just a five-minute drive from Katpadi Junction. When Vellore was upgraded to a corporation, Katpadi was also included in its city limits.
The original Katpadi village is now called Old Katpadi which lies on road which connects Thiruvalam and Chittor bus stop. The Government Boys Higher Secondary School located here is more than 100 years old.
Katpadi Junction is located in the city of Vellore and is the largest railway junction in the city and the district. One of the most important railway junctions in Southern Railway, it is one of the top ten revenue-yielding railway stations in Tamil Nadu. Bearing the station code KPD, it has four direction routes: northeast direction to Chennai, northwest to Andhra Pradesh and North India, southwest towards Coimbatore, Karnataka and Kerala, and south to Kanyakumari, Madurai.
It is also important because the Chennai-Bangalore and Chennai-Mysore Shatabdi Express stops at it, being the only junction the Shatabdi stops and excepting the Chennai-Kovai Duronto non-stop express, all the fast trains stops here. More than 150 trains cross through Vellore’s Katpadi Junction daily. The number of commuters has increased tremendously mainly due to the Christian Medical College & Hospital (CMC), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), the temple town of Tirupati and more recently the Golden temple at Sripuram, Vellore. Katpadi Junction handles more than 20,000 passengers a day.
