Goa is one of the small states in India and is located along the coastal belts of Konkan. Goa has some of the world’s finest beaches and is also called as the beach paradise. Goa is adjoined by Arabian Sea. It has many beaches, lush green hills, huge forest, beautiful waterfalls and lakes. Goa state has two rail tracks, one of them is the Konkan railway line which connects North to South and the other is South Western line which connects West to East.
Vasco Da Gama is another important railway station in Goa and South Western railway operates from this station.
Konkan Railway was opened for public on January 26, 1998 which was the 50th year of the Indian independence. Once this rail link was made it became easy for passengers to go to other parts of India. There are many fast trains available which connects Goa to other parts of India such as Mandovi Exp, Konkan Kanya Exp, Trivandrum Rajdhani and Goa Sampark Kranti etc.
Airport is located at the distance of 28 km from Madgaon station. Important beach like Varca is just at the distance of 9 km, Colva beach is 10 km far and Majorda beach is situated at the distance of 15 km from this station. Christian Art Museum is 37 km far from here.
Madgaon station has become a transit stop for most of the people. Madgaon is also connected with other cities of India such as Udupi, Karwar, Mangalore, Ratnagir and Mumbai via road. It also connects to Ponda and other different towns of Goa.
An elevated rail system Skybus Metro’s test track are made into this city but later on the Skybus Metro project was scrapped due to an accident.
Main train stations in Goa are located at Karmalik, Tivim, Pernem, Madgaon, Vasco and Canacona.
If someone travels to Goa by train, they really enjoy the journey because train runs through many tunnels and greenery.
One should make train reservation in advance for traveling to Goa. Trains to Goa has quota of seats for tourists but only tourist can buy that not a travel agent and tourist tickets are available only at the station of origin. Online tickets can also be booked but travelers must have Indian credit card or bank account. Since Jan 2010, rail ticket for Goa can also be booked with foreign credit card but only ‘AXIS’ bank should be selected as payment option.
